Only smokes when its building boost then clears up, no smoke on idle and revving

Awful day at Crail yesterday, Made a late decision to go so still had all the seats in boot full of rubbish and normal tyres plus there was a 35mph head wind. Times were way down for everyone but i was disappointed with how it performed just ether too much power at the launch and not enough traction.

pretty much down in my stage 1 times

Finally got the Vibra Technics Solid engine and gearbox mounts fitted.

Was worrying about the vibrations but i feel theres actually less than with the standard mounts and a hell of a lot less than with the standard mounts and powerflex dogbone mount. Gearchanges are also alot smoother and direct and taking your foot of the clutch is alot better and smoother now too.

2 years today. Up’s and down but I’d like to think I’ve helped make one of the best Monte Carlo’s around.

Verging on 5 figures has been spent on it, nothing’s ever been repaired always replaced or upgraded.

40,000 miles too

Also loads of great people involved along the way. As soon as the car was bought it was driven straight to Ryan from Funk Motorsport house who worked on it at night in the rain and ever since then has put up with daft questions and advise which has helped out greatly.

Then Awesome which it went to next with the car involved in a slight incident on the way through to them and having an extremely busy stay stuck it on a ramp, checked it over and cleaned it up.

George for suspension help and when I first took it on track

Biggest thanks to Richard from Modified Lights UK for building an epic engine and talking me into making it what it is today.

Marc from Autobeam for giving me discounts 😂

Ecotune for the amazing stage 1 map and help and advice to at the beginning of the slippery slope.

Marty from MVR Scotland for the upgrades and last minute fixes before and after Crail and Santa Pod and Knockhill 😂🙈

Darkside Developments for the Range and quality of products they made and making me extremely poor at the same time.

ADE Tuning for the work and mapping work and special thanks to Rachael for putting up with the phone calls and questions but not so much for when I get the bill 😂

Squid Ink Design Ltd for the stickers and fitting them usually at short notice aswell.

Debbie from Perfectly Clean making it shiny and clean and also for arranging the shows and events.

Lucas for the club he made aswell.

It’s when you start looking these things up you realise just how many are involved and also the quality of what they know and what they do to the point the only ever issue has been a map sensor.

Few plans before the years out, interesting to see what the next 2 years brings.

Only regret, started this too late for Alex to see it.

Last outing of the year. Scottish Road Car Series at Kames. Event was run as a solo but also as a Pro/Am. Asked a few people but they already had plans so Rory suggested Emily Glanvill who raced Minis, Autograss and the junior saloons getting a scholarship.

Since she raced the mini's after i stopped really being involved i hadn't heard from her but she had some good videos battling Adam online so spoke to both Adam and Hannah Chapman and both rated her really highly so thought why not.

Ran it on the ZZR's and they were pretty good in the wet, Had to drop the pressures down to 24psi though.

1st test was really tight more so at one part where the fabia's turning circle was god awful. Noticed one time Emily managed to get it round without reversing and went 7 seconds faster. In the series if you hit a cone you get a 5 second penalty so going forward she was told to hit the cone as even then if we are losing 7 seconds we would still be 2 seconds up.

2nd test was using the main Kames sprint track which i felt suited the fabia alot more. Noticed that someone had been dropping oil down so on my last run i left traction control on and went 2 seconds faster. Emily as well tried it again with the traction control on and also managed to be 2 seconds faster.

3rd test was both combined. Carrying alot more speed into the kames spring course then cutting to the right at the cones on the first run i carried so much speed the back end stepped out and i was waiting for it hit the tyres as i tried to correct it thankfully never hit the tyres!

Some how i managed to come away with driver of the day and i have to say that Emily is an amazingly talented driver and i think with some more time with the car she would have been frightenly fast,

Again the car was flawless throughout which just goes to show the amazing work that Richard from Modified Lights UK, ADE Tuning, Darkside Developments and MVR Scotland have put into it.

Car will now go to Darkside and ADE Tuning for some more work and looking forward to do it again next year.

few updates on the car.

Coupl of days before Race of Remembrance the car went to Darkside Developments and got a custom 2.5 inch exhaust fitted.

Thanks to this it increased the power up to 204bhp and 366ft lbs

Took the car up to Crail for the last day of 2018 We all love cold weather due to having turbos but the downside is that with no sun or heat the tarmac is cold and has no traction at all. Ran the car on ZZR's then switch back to the road tyres and was the same was running stage 1 times of 15.9 -16.0. Car only recently mapped so i know how much power it has and the speed was there at the top end.

Got to the end of the day and thought sod it turned on the traction control and straight away down to 15.6 and kept running 15.6's so only .2 off my summer times.

Pulled the logs and it managed 7.71 0-60 with tc on, pulled the logs from the summer and the fastest it did was 7.51 to 60, compared them and pretty much the same you can see where it cut the power a couple of times but pretty much the same.

Still managed to take down some Civic Type R's and Focus ST's.

One thing that i wanted was an LSD but the issue was finding one which will fit my gearbox. On Darkside's big turbo builds they have fitted the 6 speed from the 2 litres but when they looked at that on mine it wouldn't fit so Wavetrac stepped up and made me one Cool

Also swapped the gearstick and handbrake over to the red stitching.

Then had a photoshoot with VWG Magazine

Then took a trip down to see Bobby who owns the Darkside Developments 1.6 tdi golf with 266bhp and 400ft lbs

then the feature in the current issue of VWG Magazine came out on thursday 28/2/19

Been running PremuimContact 6's for the last year or so. Been very happy with them on the road and in the snow and at crail although when the get below 3mm they seem to struggle for grip and traction. Feels like the tyre is folding over and just pushes wide on corner exit. Everyone has been raving about pilot sport 4's so thought i would give them a try.

Perks of having a mate that works at kwik fit can get them at staff price.

Still not properly scrubbed in and took a run up to Knockhill and on the backroad up holy crap these are immense.

Road was wet so wasn’t expecting much but holding it in 3rd it just pulled of the corners and went, only seen the tcs light once and that was over a crest when the front went light.

Can’t wait to see what it’s like with the diff.

Another thing i haven't been very happy with is the brakes. When the car had the factory pads the brakes were great even on track coming into the hairpin at knockhill. They needed replaced so fitted Brembo HP2000's and i've never really got one with them. Feel that they have no initial bite and the pedal feel and length are terrible, so ordered a set of EBC Yellowstuff pads.

I know these aren't the best but for fast road and some track stuff they should be ok. Also ordered some goodridge braided lines and some new shifter bushings.

Also got gordon to put it on the scales at knockhill today with a full tank and a boot full of crap it came in at 1268kg

Diff due to be fitted in may and 2 days afterwards theres a tracknight at Cadwell so since im down there it would be rude not to test it out.

Couple of more pics from the VWG Shoot.

Had to change my brakes for the last round of SRCS and swapped from Mintex to Brembo HP2000's and fluid was also changed and every since then i've hated the brakes. Long pedal and no initial bite compared to before and had no confidence at all in them so changing them all and getting George to do it as wouldn't realy trust anyone else. Still waiting on the custom braided brake lines coming.

Keeping an eye on the Scottish Road Car Series this year and they had a new event yesterday at Alford which is used as a sprint track. Was waiting for the diff to be fitted but as this is a proper sprint track i thought it would better for the Fabia so entered at 8pm on Friday so didn't have time to take seats out or dig out the ZZR's etc.

Traction and grip with the PS4's is great and brave pills to help cut some corners and some how managed to come away with 3rd on the road!
