I’m not going to ask who is all in, I have the draft entry list sat in front of me Laughing

Just thought I would start the usual thread for posting of pre-race banter and post-race dissection and video heroics.

Decent grid with still a few days to go. As of yesterday lunchtime:
8 x FF1600
16 x Legends
7 x Fiestas
2 x Cooper S (I am told another 3 are confirmed)
11 x Classics
15 x Sports & Saloons
22 x MINIs
11 x C1s

Weather forecast as of now isn’t bad, shame there’s still 3 days left for that to change before raceday...

I am biased, but I have to say that is a great entry for S&S in the first meeting of the year.

Still a very low overall entry though, and what about the C1's?

Hopefully the entries will fill up a bit more before the weekend.

what a weekend Laughing

I'll remain positive as the only thing I really have to moan about is the weather and dodgy alternators.

Saturday

Testing - Took it easy. I know the track, I'm fairly comfortable in the Mini now so it was just getting a feeling for the car/track before qualy early on Sunday morning (weather was expected to be just as grim). Prob did about 5 or 6 'hot laps' all day whilst prepping new tyres/brakes and such like. No dramas, no breakages. Pace seemed alright when i was pushing a bit so wasnt in a howling strop like normal Very Happy

Sunday

Qualifying

Plan? To set some quick safe laps without having any dramas. Session was red flagged about halfway through to clear a car - I was p11 at that point but knew i could go a bit quicker with less caution. The grip wasn't terrible but visibility wasn't great if in a pack. Session re-started and I made a gap on the outlap - straight away i was up about 1s on previous time... caught some traffic after that but still managed to shave another 0.7s off on the last lap. Result p11.

Coulda/shoulda done a little better but to be honest I'm happy enough. Nothing up with the car and there was decent enough grip even with a setup that was hoping it was at least going to stop raining (it didnt!)

Race 1

Very wet, misty and generally minging. Same setup as Qualy... crap start but didnt go backwards! Some fun racing and up to 7th. Coming into hairpin on lap 7 you can see warning lights on the dash. Coming into Duffus on last lap the power steering goes. Everything just goes downhill from there with no alternator power to run the car's systems Sad A lot of folk got passed as I limped around to finish 19th.

VID - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNfES7yKJRA some hand waving at Hislop around 10mins in. Pretty sure it wasnt intentional given the visibility/conditions, but if i didnt back out of that i'd have been on the grass, or he'd have been spun round and into the tyre wall. No worries though, was still good fun racing Very Happy

Race 2

A little hacked off with the issues in race 1 but starting a long way back. I needed to get past a lot of cars on the first lap to get into top half of the field. Great start, and made up a handful of places before turn 1. Correcting a slide took me wide and clipped my front corner against another car, ending the correction of the slide and making me head straight infield onto wet grass :O Was thinking it was going to be a roll over the tyre wall but somehow it just looks like I parked it a bit close to the barrier (not sure if my imaginative use of the handbrake on the way down helped it, but all i was thinking at that point was turning the car to slow in. Brakes weren't up to much on wet grass.
Once out of the muck I managed to claw my way back up to 18th, and had top 10 pace despite (unknown to me) dragging my rear bumper behind me and having 4 wheels full of mud (serious vibrations)

Again - looking at the positives. Can felt great, pace was actually ok, and no harm done (dented door). Small error that escalated.

Race3

Fun race from 19th to 11th. Another unforced error lost me the target of a top 10 finish again. This time it was me catching P9/8 that got me a bit eager and running wide at Clarks. Some big air but nothing too serious as a result - lost a place and some more character to the front bumper.
Positives - top 10 pace again, with the car feeling and going better than ever (despite my attempts to change that all day)

VID - https://youtu.be/l0vP8CyI2Qg

Thanks to Craig/Mark/Lowell/Adam Morrison/Muz for the help. Thanks to MiniMax for the cake and a new battery! Thanks to ALM for the offer of the alternator (turns out there was the right one still bolted to Fee's spare engine).

What next - prob a gearbox swap needed. Noticed a few crunches into 2nd on Sunday but seems worse in the vid. New rear bumper... maybe even a front one.

Here's Gordon's races. Nothing much to say other than it was good to get back to racing and we both enjoyed race day.

first time back in car after 8 months, first time in A050 in wet. All things considered genuinely happy with how i did and not so much of a scaredy cat with other cars. Qual 16 then 11 -> 11 -> 16.

SMRC Celtic Speed Mini Cooper Cup

Round 1

Qualifying

The day started off disappointing for me…it was wet, very wet! After testing the day before on old tyres I didn’t have much confidence on grip and found myself on track alone so found it hard to judge pace. The session was red flagged for a recovery and once resumed, I was back in a pack for the final few minutes. I managed to knock a couple of seconds off my previous time, but spray and visibility levels made me overly cautious and the session finished with me sitting in 18th place.

Race 1

Overall, pretty uneventful! I lined up on the grid, and there wasn’t a light to be seen! I tried looking in every direction (including behind) with no success. In the end I had to judge my start against the cars starting around me – not ideal. I made up a few places, but then seemed to fall asleep for half a lap and lost them again! Started 18th….finished 18th!

Race 2

This time I lined up and could see 3 sets of lights…despite being in exactly the same starting position as the first race! A better start (and a happier driver!) and I made up a few places to 11th. Had a good wee battle with Adam Morrison, only to lose it on the last lap on the exit of MacIntyres. Adam did his best to avoid my spinning car, but we clipped wheel to wheel and that unfortunately ended his race. I managed to get the car out of the gravel and nursed it round to the finish line. By just finishing, I managed to pick up my first ladies trophy of the weekend, with Ashleigh having to retire earlier in the race.

No vid ☹

Race 3

Plan for the last race – push forward, stay forward! Race 3 was definitely the most enjoyable of the day for me. Starting at the back, I made up some places and had some good battles with Ashleigh Morris Racing, David Geen and Barry Holmes. I still only finished 17th, but picking up my second ladies trophy of the day, and that one definitely felt more deserved!

Vid - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAWStNtHhZU

A mixed day overall….after my testing pace I was hoping to be fighting further up the grid from the start of the season, but that’s racing I suppose. On the plus side, the car is feeling great, it’s just the driver that needs to learn to wake up at the start of the day!

Big thanks to the Minimax team for getting the car ready, and getting the car fixed, and big thanks to Scott for his pep talks to get my head back in the game.

Huge thank you to my sponsors for this year.
    Kay Building Contractors
    CD Refrigeration UK
    Drummond Distribution
    Bonthrone Security Services

You guys are just awesome 😊

Finally a massive thank you to the marshalls, photographers, spectators and basically anyone that gave up their weekend to stand outside in the miserable Scottish weather to allow us all to have our fun. You guys must have been drenched….and it really is appreciated.

unusual for me to be so high up grid but i did notice on right hand side of grid lots of places where cant see lights. methinks need to be plonking car slightly to right.

however seeing as i cant start on handbrake all my starts were pretty coola.
