More geeky stuff, but I think its something thats missed by a lot of folk.... and a very cheap and easy thing to change.

I've known about this (reads as - I read about this a few years ago) for a while, hence the larger (then you normally see on GTR/Impreza) wing endplates on our cars.

Not just large, but positioned with about 80% of the endplate below the wing.

I'll scan the pics, but in short it reduces drag (to a point) whilst also benefiting down force. So greater overall efficiency.

From memory something around 350mm below the wing is a sweet spot for 'most' (saloon type car)

A sample of endplates on the profiles and arrangement of the wings that are both our Imprezas (I ran single element last SMRC)

Tested gains

So EP3 (large endplates) gave 11.4kg MORE downforce than EP1 (small). EP3 also reduced drag by 1.6kg

above results plotted

CFD analysis, showing air spilling and bigger vortices

Single element wing... Downforce / Drag / Efficiency against endplate depth

Why not above. Having it sticking out above will help too, but regs are kinda height limited Laughing same with sticking the rear wing about 1m above roof line Very Happy

Are those graphs for a 400mm cord wing? (implied by the title of the last one)

Interesting empirical data - the old-skool theory is that the height of the end-plates (relative to cord) should carry on increasing the effective AR beyond the 1-1 ratio, but this isn't borne out here.

The last 3 images show data derived from a 1.38m wind span, and EP 400mm below - which it equates to 1:1 with cord, so yes. Will double check if I remember as it might give more info.
