Anyone ever done any?

Even basic stuff like taping tufts of wool on parts of the car and going for a blast with a camera recording them?

Suspension: Position sensors on struts to measure downforce. Not exactly accurate as roads are bumpy... but I guess you could filter noise out.

Loadcell on rear wing upright?

I'd like gain a bit more knowledge on what exactly is happening to airflow around certain parts of the car, so I think I'll try the wool tufts at somepoint Laughing

A dry KH would be good, or I suppose crail would do!

Have a quick squizz at this, you will like this thread:

http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?126104-Nige-s-2-0-16VT-MK2-Trackcar-Let-s-go-to-the-Nurburgring/page41

Nige used pressure sensors to see what pressure was doing underneath car but by his own admission, road surface affected the results. Need a smooth surface.

In all seriousness, one or two massive (indutrial scale) fans and wool/fluro paint would do the trick and probably be quite fun.

4 of these from HSS hire should do it!: http://www.hss.com/hire/p/warehouse-fan

I did a sixth year studies project that involved a wind tunnel and fluid mechanics, and then some aerodynamics for my CPL. But that's a while ago now. The bits that stuck with me most was the use of vortex generators to break down boundary layers and improve overall flow above the surface. Often whats is happening several inches above the surface is more important. If you look at Andy Forrest's car, he makes good use of them on his roof.

aye, Foz....

I have CFD (openFOAM)... but not in possession of an accurate model.

David - Yup, those little shark tooth things are something I've considered. When I first saw them I thought cheap tat, but since reading about them, and their benefits... they should help with the rear wings.

I havent actually noticed them on andys car. Will check pics
