what about material ideas for the splitter?
I'm looking at making one for the VX220 just now, problem is the fiberglass/paper/chewing gum my clam is made from just isn't strong enough to mount one on. so it has to be mounted a mile back on the alloy tub.

We've used the following to date - bearing in mind you want a decent thickness of splitter for it to work correctly

10-16mm for example

AluCore - strong, light and rigid BUT Expensive and a bit flaky after impacts
Ply - strong, fairly light, rigid and cheap - Not very Gucci Razz
foam cored carbon sheet - expensive <bought from CarbonMods>, and not very rigid - shit impact resistance

I'm aiming to make my own if not using simple PLY.

1 method - hole saw a sheet of ply to take a lot of the weight out, and then bond DiBond composite on top/below to make a sandwich. Rigid, cheap.

Or sheets of GRP/Carbon/Kevlar on flat surfaces so they cure with a smooth coat on 1 side... use these as the outers and then bond to a 15mm foam board core - then cut to size

basic engineering...

a fairly 'weak' core can be used - select light weight
add strength by moving material out from the centre line (second moment of area) - increase thickness
Use thin but strong top/bottom layers to add stregth/rigidity etc - think tension & compression
