It's a terrible shame to see the car end up this way. As said above he had unbelievable self-belief and that is half the battle with developing a car but he didn't back it up with humility or the acceptance that others know better and never stopped to think if it was better just to develop parts of the car over time rather than go absolutely mental with aero and botch the engine to keep up. I hope there's some recovery for him with this and we can read about a more sensible but more long-lived project next time.

I doubt it, every project seems to either end in disaster or going through the courts.

The Pistonheads build threads seems to point to the probable cause;

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=47&t=1300762&i=580&mid=29055&nmt=Lotus+Exige+S1+Turbo

I'm sure it was mentioned that it wasn't a good idea to exhaust in that way.

I wonder if the absence of the sensor or port bung in the exhaust had anything to do with it? Maybe it came out and allowed hot exhaust gases under the rear clam. Or it melted in the fire....

yeah, i wondered about that too. A metal bung wouldnt have melted in a fire... and it would be very strange to remove the sensor/bung. Maybe it was something salvageable, and removed before the pic was taken.

No idea Laughing

Looks like he has started stripping it - hoses have gone and no jubilee clips which wouldn't have melted.
