AK, I've now towed the car with an X5, brand new Disco, RR Sport, Isuzu pick-up and a Mitsubishi pick-up.

Nothing comes close to the X5 for towing and it makes a huge difference if going a long way i.e. down south or to continent.

Why the need for a van Adam/Fee?

Not be better of with a Shuttle trailer so you can carry more wheels/spares in there?

A shuttle trailer wont really give more space for anything, well the ones we have used in the past havent. We get 7 wheels on the tyre rack but having room 'indoors' to do stuff (activities LOL ) is great.

I haven't really given much of a thought to what we want :S

Needs to have decent space, decent pulling power, not look shit

In that case you need a Bi-turbo Sportline DSG😉

As much as I love my van, it's only in a work way to carry the men and tools required to do my job. I hardly ever use it outside of work. Even when I go moutain biking I take the BMW with racks.

Disco 4 not a fair bit bigger than the X5?

aye, it is a bit steep for a 2005!

The idea/compromise with the T5 is that its kinda car like. I dont want to driving a tranny daily.

T5s came into production 2003ish.. We want either a T30 or T32 with the following engine options

2.5 TDI PD 2,461 cc (150 cu in) I5 turbo 174 PS (128 kW; 172 hp) 400 Nm (295 lbft)

or

2.0 BiTDI CR 1,968 cc (120 cu in) I4 Bi-turbo 179 PS (132 kW; 177 hp) 400 Nm (295 lbft) - 2010 onwards, so wont be in price range

PistonHeads link to different models with 2.5 174bhp 5cly engine- http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds?Category=used-cars&Cylinders=005&EnginePowerFrom=150&M=2630&M=529&M=530&M=550&MinEngineSize=2400&Page=1

I'm of the opinion i'd rather a spanking new Toureg over an older Transporter :S

Or a BM touring <bruno mobile> + a pikey van (VW Crafter like your dads) or something like Brians

If any one is interested I will have a 60 plate medium wheelbase/medium roof transit coming up for sale from my procurement business. Mechanically it's great and was a high spec when I bought it new. Sadly my drivers appear to have been stock car racing in it so it looks terrible. It's going be to cheap for that reason. It's silver btw. Would suit a wrap Mr. Green

I have a brand new Transit coming in a month or so and the existing one will be going then.

Any thoughts/experience of the 2.0 BiTD 180bhp engines? Are they strong enough and reliable?

Real world issues with a LWB? I'd always thought SWB, but seen a nice LWB.... how much of twat is it for general day to day living with it? It looks a bit.... er.... long Laughing
