Only thing I dont like about the halfords one is all the AF sockets Confused

they do come in handy if a bolt or nut is chewed a bit and needs a socket a fraction smaller, plus for us halfwits that work on classic cars and caravans they are very handy

Halfords Advanced isn't as good as Professional, I'd definitely agree on that. Ratchet mechanisms in particular are more prone to failure and also aren't warrantied, although i have heard this can vary depending on how your negotiations with the staff go.

Have you considered a bluepoint set?

Te internals were never warranted, but are serviceable. Annoyances with advanced are the deep sockets which are shallow inside....

That's a great price for that Halfords set. I've ordered one so will see what it's like when I collect later today.

The Britool set I have has lasted me very well for the last 5 years or so. Nothing has broken although the reverse ratchet on the 1/4" ratchet is a little sticky.

Think I paid around 130 for the full 1/4" and 1/2" set with all internal and external torques, sockets, allen bits and drive bits with extensions, etc.

Got it off screwfix when they had a special on which they do frequently.

Also bought a halfords professional 3/8" set which is also very good.

The Halfords Advanced stuff is pretty decent and is a solid buy if you are a hobbyist.

If you can find a Blue Point kit like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/blue-point-socket-amp-spanner-set-/321748790220?&_trksid=p2056016.m2518.l4276

I would recommend that over the Halfords Advanced. It's Snap On under a different brand and is also covered by the same Snap On warranty.

http://www.snapon.com/uk/legal/Terms_of_Sale.asp

Quote:
5.1
All SNAP-ON and BLUE-POINT tools carry a full warranty the duration of which depends upon the nature of the tool. For BLUE-POINT brand hand tools, unless otherwise specified with the tool, the warranty is also a LIFETIME warranty effective as long as you own the tool.

I'd definitely recommend having a look at the Facom ratchet sets.
A bit more pricey then the halfords professional stuff but well worth the money.

We've just got some of them in at work on a trial and found that when the ratchets are in too tight a space to use the ratchet normally, you can spin the actual grip to rotate the socket. Fantastic idea for working on the back of engines / gearboxes!

Have a look here: http://www.primetools.co.uk/product/130891
