Hi all,

Looking to get a new turbo for my 1996 impreza ra 2.1 stroker, with ppg gears. Been reading about the md series and the sc turbo's, but I've also been recommended the garrett gtx2871. Would like about 475bhp with good spool, anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers

Think you'll need bigger than a gtx28.

MD321V or gtx3076 would be my choice. Lots of turbos out there for this power. Just go for billet for a good spool.

I've heard good things about the md321v, but does it not really need the avcs heads? it's an added expense I could be doing without, given the price of the turbo on its own

Cheers

Cupman, you not reckon the 3076 would give to much lag?

Depends on what you want from the car I suppose. Fees 2.3 with avcs and the 321V is awesome... any gear and it just goes! Mine is a 2.1 with the same turbo... and pulls hard but is about 1000rpm lazyier on spool. I.e 1000rpm later to hit ful boost.

Cheers Adam, if you were getting a new one for your car, would you stick with the same one or would you go for something different? Cheers

The 3071 will be less laggy but won't give a much top end.

Depends what you want. I think on a 2.1 you should be ok with both. The billet wheel will help with the lag but at the end of the day, lag is just the calm before the storm. Lol

As said, the 321V is tried, tested and reliable.
