That question is a lot harder than you think.

A 10k budget is nothing, but if that was all the cash I had, then I'd go for the lightest car I could find/make. That would keep the stresses off the expensive bits and keep running costs low, while still having the potential to be competitive in class.

a 5k Impreza with 5k spent on suspension, brakes and cage Very Happy

or Laughing

a 1.5k Clio with shit loads done to it.....

There are so many ways to approach SLS that this is really hard to answer. A lot should depend on the drivers preference (RWD/FWD). Then things like does it need to be road legal.... if not it can be stripped out, caged etc.

I would suggest (if its 10k all in) having a look on classified sites for what 10k can buy you. Thats a cheaper way to 'build' a car Wink

E46 M3 - can they be bought for 10k?

If he only has 10K are you going to chop it in in half for him? I'd take the front half Wink

I think you can make a competitive car for 10 grand but it would need to be the right car. For example my Prelude (certainly not a choice most would go for), the cage for that was a quarter of this budget.

I think with class F the option of a much cheaper build is there.

If your car was 10k I would have it is is stunning

This is not a car for me it is just to get a but of a chat going

I have been tempted to build a mk5 golf gti for the track

Car 3000
Cage 1500
Seat 300
kW coil overs 1500
Limited slip diff 900
Full polly bush kit 500
Ravo stage 2 kit 1500

How do you think this would do

Do you have any idea on the power at the wheels or its approx weight? That is the ultimate decider on if a car is/will be competitive in SLS.

9200 to build a golf when 10000 gets you a ready built corrado Wink

With 350bhp the golf might just break under 60s

nah nah.... Should be looking at 57s with a stripped out Golf and 350 bhp Very Happy

If it was a first time trackday/competitive person.... I would prob suggest not spending the whole 10k in a one-er. Buy a ready build car to fit into Class F or E for sub 5k and see how you fair. You could prob make your money back at the end of the year and move up, or improve the car with the change left over. Clio 182's seem ideal... or Civic TypeRs. E36 M3 with zero weight!

Seat time is initially much more of a factor for quick lap times than gucci parts and 5billion bhp,
