Do you start on the on-board battery?
In theory, we only ever start the car on the slave battery (currently a big old diesel job, but soon to be changed to a smaller item to save poor Scott's back!). Of course, there's the occasional incident where an on-board start can't be avoided (stalling, excessive grid delays on hot days etc), but most race weekends its not necessary.
If you can switch to a slave-based system, you could get away with the much smaller li battery.

That said, my car's got no alternator, so it's a total loss system, although compared to the scooby, there's a lot less electrical stuff to power.

p.s. I expect you've already got a lightweight alternator, but in case not, lots of early 90s jap hatches ran ultra-small Denso sourced ones (identical to the "competition" ones they now sell for mucho dinero). The one in the Westfield came out of a one of the three-pot Daihatsus IIRC.

One of these technologies that is hard to believe at first, but they are better in every respect. Delighted with my Super B and I did a lab capacity check when new, and now it's a year old, and it was identical.

Nice one, thanks boys. What trickle chargers do you recommend?

While i was trawling the net i found out that battery jumper/booster packs also come in tiny lithium form as well, not sure how i missed these. I ordered this one: Suaoki U10 Car Jump Starter 800A Peak 20000mAh should be here today.

Best to get out of the lead acid mentality - 'trickle charging', and keeping them fully charged is not the best idea. Lithium ion batteries store best at 50% charge so I tend to only charge mine just before I need to use it.

Provided you stop charging when fully charged, any charger will work but safest to use a CCCV type charger - one that charges at a fixed current until a predetermined voltage is reached. I uses a lab CCCV power supply set to the battery charging specification.

yup, as above.... i dont keep it 'charged'. Just top it up for 10/20mins if going to start it after a while.

No drains on battery though

Cheers boys, points noted. If it's been sat I'll probably just use the new lithium jumper pack that I just got.

Bit of a thread bump!

My odyssey battery has decided it has had enough and wont hold a charge, so looking at these lithium ion batteries for a lighter smaller solution.

Anyone any advice on what battery would suit or what you all have used? Looking at the JMT batteries but not sure which would be suitable for the clio
