Thought I would start a little thread to keep all my racing updates for 2016 etc, used to have one for the old impreza and quite often look through to revive some memories Laughing

Bought another kart the tail end of summer last year, desperately needed some form of motorsport back in my life.

I previously owned a 125cc gearbox kart, but this time round for ease of maintenance, reliability & class size I went for the senior Rotax Max class.

Was a last min spur of the moment purchase popped up on eBay and was local, got it cheap enough didn't expect much looks clean but its an old chassis slightly twisted, not a sealed engine etc.

After the first 5 - 10 laps out with the kart at boyndie this happened

Piston ring failed making a mess of the piston, barrel & plenty bits and bobs into the bottom end, the engine was a goner before Bought the kart.

I wasn't to bothered to be honest I had always planned to get another engine soon enough, purchased the engine from Mark Geraghty who was selling up from karting and entering into the world of SMRC Mini's...

Sealed engine rebuilt by Ogden, I also bought a new Carb & set of jets.

After a few teething issues got the kart set up good, and a round of the Boyndie Open Cup Championship didn't get much seat time before the race but was still a really good weekend! Plenty people kicking about with fancy camera's but never seen any images kicking about from the race weekend.

You tube Video of the second heat (Memory card failure lost the rest of the footage) Starting from the back of the grid as I'm a novice.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBGwcPFhAVE

Started the final in 16th or 14th position and finished up in 5th position so was pretty happy with that result.

A nice little still from the race

And the first of many battle scars

This year Im looking to do all but one round of the boyndie open cup and do a few rounds of the Endurance championship down south.

Of the top of my head I think I was about 12-15kg Over the limit, plan doing the below over the course of the next few months as well as lose a little weight myself.

Replace all the below parts with new magnesium parts.
Wheels
Wheel hub
Sprocket carrier
Disc carrier
Bearing carrier
Disc-hub carrier
Steering boss
Alignment disc
Engine mount

Replace the current Tony Kart brake set up for the below single master cylinder light weight caliber & floating disc.

Almost 2kg saving with a lightweight battery alone!

I also bought a pretty lightweight race suit, new lighter helmet on the way also, So hoping to be 3-5kg over weight by the end of the season which I don't think will make a huge difference.....

I like this!

We've got a gearbox kart as well which we've just used for a bit of fun over the years on private roads and up at crail etc.

I can defo relate to the reliability issues you mention though - its a pain in the backside a lot of the time.

Karting it like total witchcraft though - I totally underestimated just how much there is in the setup of these wee things till we got in to it.

All the best with it though!

Yea I had endless problems with my gearbox kart, which actually ended up going in the skip (except the engine) steering rod snapped in 6th gear going round a kink, chassis ended up twisted in radiator etc ripped off.

I spent 2 solid test days playing with the set up of my chassis finally got it to a place I'm happy with when the track is dry and rubbered in, praying it never rains during a race as I have no real set up for the wet yet... my chassis is twisted (its old) so not going to invest to much time into it.

Down in London just now got a test day with X30 chassis GMS kart team in preparation for the open endurance championship.

Test day was good, but frustrating aswell... I was in an endurance spec kart which felt like it was on ice... (super hard compound tyres to last 5 hours etc) and sharing the track with all sprint spec karts...

Good to get to meet the team looks like I should be racing in the endurance race this Sunday, just waiting on confirmation.

Im hoping for the race weekend we can try and give me some leg room!

Cheeky still from a vid, airborne some big kerbs down south (for karting!)

I have a new set of tyres that I don't need anymore, open to offers, bought 2 years ago, still in the wrapping.

Cheers
