front lounge... lovely hardboard on top of the floorboards, and some previous repairs from rot/damp. None of this was picked up in home report, but its been repaired with new joists etc. I ended up sourcing period correct and correct dimension board from a Victorian school down south that was getting knocked down.

When orig sash & case windows were replaced the bastards just smashed there way through the wood panneling and replaced with shite hardboard and painted it. Another unwanted surprise. Found 1 broken panel and repaired it, and found some pitch pine at a salvage yard to make the other one. Rage!

SO much paint stripping.... :/

visited some salvage yards in edinburgh - no luck with reclaimed 5" x 1" pitch pine boards. Will just have to get them delivered from England. Checked out the possibilities of taking them from a room upstairs but its a daft all round plan... we'd need new boards to replace them so may as well do the job once!

Repaired and made replacement panels for the window. The lighter one will match in the end once wood has been lightened etc.

Lounge - Stripped and bleached the door - not cleaned properly yet but its much lighter already Smile

Nitromorsed, and cleaned with sugersoap.

bleach doing its thing (vitableach 2 pack)

after 30mins or so

Nitromorsed (not cleaned) wood vs the stripped back wood

Window pannelling coming along - to be cleaned and bleached too

Stripping all the bay window mouldings after patching the missing panels.

Patching the bay window floor with salveged boards... came out ok once levels and sanded down. Can still see the difference if you know they are different and look. i.e they werent tongue n groove

Woodwork all done... first coat with a clear satin finish, then two coats with a dark oak scumble, turps and some polyurethene varnish mix.... seems to have come out quite nice. The picture rail was simply replaced as it wasnt original - so feck stripping light modern yellow pine!
Floors - 3 coats of medium oak satin.

Master Bedroom... more yellow Razz

To Do - make 2x doorways into small bedrrom next door. Convert into walkin wardrobe and ensuite.

Keeping facings etc period correct

Damp problems in this corner so stripped back and had a look. Gutters were clogged and pointing on the roof edging a bit shit...

Cant remember why i took the ceiling down Laughing Must have been sagging from the damp... so ripped it out and replaced, keeping and patching orig coving.

more and more woodwork

Making the blocks for door frames.... old church pews, and scored on the inner edge like the Victorians did (to keep lines straight etc)

Previous twat owners had siliconed ALL windows shit Neutral

Wardrobe

On to Ensuite...

the front half of the old bedroom that was used for the walk in wordrobe. About 1.9m x 2.5m so ok size... not massive. Due to conservation area we couldnt take 4" waste out the front of the house and I didnt want to box off parts of the hall/vestibule below. I tried running pipe down wall space but just gave up in the end and went with a saniflow and smaller pipe down to 4" mains in basement.

heating pipes needed move... floors needed patched etc etc

New walls boarded and taped, celing lowered with spots. Travetine tiles, simple bathroom suite.

Some job there, hats off for the commitment, I hate stripping paint and going from paint back to varnish is about the worst!

Can sympathise with previous bodges, we're going through that pain with our place just now!

Monster Hall!! 15 doors to strip, staircase, all skirtings and facings. Ceiling to re-do... WC to add in under stairs.

Stripping layers and layers of old paper off. Bit of a PITA at peak height of something like 7m. Scaffolding required.

Celing also needed patched round the stained glass window (light tunnel) type thing. Water ingres again - repaired the skylight.

Old box for the buzzers in the room thing went here... Really would like to put a dummy one back in Very Happy Following a trend.... it must have been removed an bodged in the late 70s

walls stripped

Opening up the room for new WC under stairs. Load of pipes for heating, alarm system and some wiring needed moved too.

Yet more wood stripping Sad

starting to finish it off

Cast iron spindles finished in old penny broze effect paint. Feckin daft expensive stuff.

More salvage yard finds Smile Glasgow this time... for a pair old stained glass panels to go into door. 1 for kitchen to hall, and one for vestibule. This is the one for kitchen to hall.

with the door it was to go into

laid out and repaired and extended

panel finished

in door

Old suite getting ripped out. No longer needed 2x toilets right next door to each other. Swap it back to a bedroom.

ripping off tiles left not a lot of orig plaster!

another celing to do! This had been taken down before and a false celing inserted for the bathroom. Sack that, back to full height 3+m celing.

old fireplace

attic space... 2x water tanks for header of old hot water system. Removed and mains pressure system fitted to feed new WCs above this.

plaster plaster plaster

tidying up and finishing...

New 'period' coving from Boyles in Glasgow. Bit of a PITA to fit but after priming the mating faces with watered PVA it was a bit easier.

No finished pics again, maybe Fee has. Carpets down etc. Needs redone though Mad due to some cracks from building work on this gable end of house.
