Me too. Hoping to be less shit at reverse direction than I was last year (I'm at least less scared of it, which should help!).

SMRC Round 2 Race Report

The second SMRC meeting of the year was held in reverse (anti-clockwise) direction. Whilst I do like the reverse circuit, I still haven't quite gotten over my apprehensions at Clarks corner following a wee incident in my Skyline there a few years ago.
I was glad of the full day of testing on Saturday...the car was running well and after a few tweaks to the set up during the day I finished up happy and ready for race day. My times weren't amazing but I knew there was still more to come and could tell from looking at all the logs the areas where I could clearly push harder.

Qualifying
I was keen to get in a banker lap early on, but struggled to find clear track with cars still out warming their tyres. By the chequered flag I had gotten in to the 63s, placing me 12th on the grid for race 1.

Race 1
Carnage...again!
I got an ok start, but an incident at Clarks on the first lap meant that the safety car was deployed and we were in a train for another 5 laps whilst the cars in question were recovered. Once racing resumed I managed to complete another 2 laps before having to retire due to a coil pack issue. Disappointing...but these things happen.

Race 2
The car was back together and ready to go, and I was at the back of the grid with my fellow team mates (Craig and Dave) who had suffered incidents in the first race.
I got a better start and made up a few places and set to chase down the pack ahead. The rest of the race was pretty uneventful - with the high track temperature I was struggling with grip and finished the race defending against those that I had passed earlier in the race. I finished in 11th place. I had hoped for a top 10 finish, but at least I had a better starting point for the next one.

Race 3
Probably the most frustrating one of the day for me....even with the DNF earlier in the day!
Started in 11th and ended in 14th place. I was struggling with grip again and lap times were just not where they should have been. I've not got much more to say about that one!

So a mixed bag of a weekend really. I didn't do as well as I had hoped, but the car is still in one piece and ready for the next outing.
The two days have definitely helped build my confidence again with the reverse layout, which will come in handy for the September meeting which is to be run anti-clockwise as well.

We've got a break from Knockhill now, with the next race there in July.
The away round is next on the calendar, at Anglesey in just over 2 weeks time. Last time I was there was back in 2011, so I'm not sure if I'll still remember my way around!

No, didn't film quali, but I have it for first part of race. 2nd part got destroyed when my camera exited the car.
