CHILDREN'S HOSPICE ASSOCIATION SCOTLAND

The Colin McRae Vision already works very closely with the Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) and have been in discussions with them aiding the expansion of their support network.

CHAS is the only charity in Scotland that provides hospice services for children and young people with life-shortening conditions.

CHAS runs two children's hospices, Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch. The hospices support the whole family by offering short planned breaks, emergency support, end of life care and a range of bereavement services.

CHAS also provides a home care service, called CHAS at Home, staffed from both hospices and with a dedicated team in Inverness. The service offers care to families in their own homes when they need it most.

CHAS currently supports over 250 families, as well as a significant number of families who receive bereavement support. The services are funded mainly through the generosity of the many supporters who help raise over £6 million needed each year to provide these vital hospice services.

CHAS at Home expanding

In October CHAS at Home expanded into Aberdeen to help local families in their own homes when they need it most. The expansion into Aberdeen will mean CHAS can support more families in and around Aberdeen providing nursing care, emotional support and practical help

Why have we chosen to expand in Aberdeen?

The decision to expand the CHAS at Home service in Aberdeen came after the charity worked in consultation with Paediatric Consultants in Aberdeen, and identified that it is reaching under 50% of children and young people in the area who are known to have life-shortening conditions. It's hoped a new CHAS at Home team in Aberdeen will encourage more families to use CHAS services to give them extra support.

The Colin McRae Vision is already working with CHAS and all funds raised by TrekScotland will go towards the establishment of the CHAS at Home services in Aberdeen.
